Free vs paid golf league software
Free golf league software is enough when you only need scores and can tolerate ads or a bare free tier. Paid seats make sense when every golfer should be on a paid roster, the season has a clear length, or the free tier stops at the feature you actually need. For charity outings, the comparison shifts: no-setup outing pages versus published $199–$347 event SKUs.

The free lane (scoring first)

Spreadsheet — committees often start weekly scores in a shared sheet. That is how many friends groups begin. It is not a software SKU and it has no published product price. It fails when two people edit different copies, or when the commissioner is also playing and cannot update standings before the beer league ends.
Stay free when:
- The only job is posting scores and a rough standing
- Nobody is collecting weekly mulligan money through the same tool
- Ads or a Free-tier feature ceiling are acceptable for the season you are in

Rough math without inventing averages
For a 16-golfer friends season: Puttfor seats are 16 × $12 = $192 for the season under the published cap. x4Golf is $55 for the year if unlimited players matter more than a per-seat model. EZ Standard at $10/golfer is 16 × $10 = $160 before any Managed tier. Power Level at $2/person per 8 weeks is a different clock — price the blocks you will actually run.
Those are arithmetic on published unit prices, not claims about what “most leagues” spend.
